Why EYP is conducting research
EYP architects and engineers know that buildings can and do influence culture.
We put Science on Display to create environments that will help engage more students in the STEM fields. To go beyond the anecdotal evidence that our designs achieve this goal, we have developed a research protocol to gather hard data that demonstrates the actual impact of our designs.
Initial data demonstrates that five scales of informal learning spaces are essential to creating an inviting and effective intellectual community environment: large-scale atria and commons; individual and small group study areas; faculty/student breakout spaces; laboratory write-up areas; and department lounges.
