We partnered with Morphosis to design this critical facility, the only command and control center of its kind in the NOAA system. We provided engineering, energy, project management, sustainability, and interior design/FF&E expertise.
Integrating energy conservation measures from the earliest phases of design enabled us to incorporate efficient and cost-effective features for substantial savings of energy resources and associated costs. The 208,271 gsf structure is partially submerged to take advantage of the earth’s insulating properties and to blend in with surrounding landscapes. The 145,000 sf green (sod) roof improves thermal efficiency by providing a non-reflective surface.
Commissioned under the GSA’s Design Excellence Program, this building earned LEED Gold certification.
