Traditional Building Conference Features Four EYP Presenters

EYP shared its expertise in numerous presentations at this year's Traditional Building Conference in Boston. First, Principal and Historic Preservation expert Mark Thaler, AIA, and Associate Mike Goard, along with the owner of Stockbridge, MA's Red Lion Inn, presented, "Restoring the Red Lion Inn: Lessons on Energy Retrofit and Modern Systems".

The trio explored several topics, including how energy efficiency can be increased while restoring an historic building, and the ways in which modern systems and amenities were integrated into this complex restoration project. Second, Thaler and EYP Principal and Director of Engineering Peter Ottavio, PE, LEED AP, presented, "Assessing Energy Performance in Historic Buildings," discussing ways to assess a building's existing energy performance, strategies for making informed decisions about interventions, and options for improving energy efficiency in historic buildings. Last but not least, EYP Principal and Historic Preservation expert David Fixler, FAIA - who was also recognized as a contributor to the conference's development - presented, "The Recent Past: Moving Beyond the 50-Year Rule". His session revealed why mid-century Modernism is significant, identified authentic materials of interest from the Modernist period, and explored previously held notions of historical and architectural significance.
