EYP Historic Preservation Expert Finds Himself in the "Center of the Storm"
A recent issue of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's official magazine, Preservation, highlighted the controversy surrounding Boston's City Hall, and featured numerous comments and insights from EYP Principal and Historic Preservation expert
David Fixler, FAIA. The article, called, "At the Center of the Storm,"
explores two differing opinions of the 1960s Modernist structure. Architects and preservationists consider it an important and significant building, while many municipal employees, as well as city residents and visitors, consider it outdated and an eyesore. Fixler argues that the design was actually "very well thought through," and that the building "is misunderstood and has never been maintained as it was meant to be". Along with other preservationists and green building professionals, he advocates not only saving the building, but also making it a showpiece for green preservation.
