Spurred by a need to introduce undergraduate on-campus housing to a primarily commuter campus, Wayne State built two new residence halls as the first step in a goal to provide 5,000 new on-campus beds by 2020.
Located on a prominent entrance to the urban campus, the site has become has become the most important east-west pedestrian passage through the University. The first residence hall contains 365 beds and features double rooms with private baths, as well as a 400-seat dining hall. The second residence hall also features doubles with private baths, and houses the Office of Housing & Residential Life, as well as a great room, seminar rooms, lounge rooms, and a patio.
Experience with similar projects enabled us to expedite the process. The first residence hall was programmed, designed, and under construction in just 13 weeks, a process that normally takes a year; the second residence hall was programmed and designed in even less time.
