The University sought to upgrade and expand a signature building into a flexible and inviting hub for student services and activities as well as campus admissions.
We rehabilitated the entire 1950s structure to create strategic connections among floors and bring daylight into the heart of the building. A 22,000-square-foot addition expands the floor plates, enabling the University to provide a one-stop student services experience and gain much-needed office space for campus publications and security. The building also houses the campus bookstore and the Underground, a coffeehouse with flexible activities space.
The new two-story central stairway vertically integrates the building's many features, creating a lively and attractive hub for campus life. Collocation of Admissions to this de facto campus center enhances the campus visit experience.
