McCormick Tribune Center Medill School of Journalism
EYP designed a signature building to support the print, broadcast, and Internet-based media critical to journalism pedagogy and 21st-century communications. An inviting and spacious glass lobby provides a popular "front porch," encouraging student, faculty, and interdisciplinary interaction. Each floor of the state-of-the-art communications center houses a different component of the curriculum, all linked by a fiber-optic network and a satellite feed. Further serving the needs of the community, the technologically advanced multimedia auditorium also accommodates local Town Meetings. The entire facility is carefully modulated to harmonize with the scale of smaller, neighboring buildings, including Daniel Burnham’s 1899 Fisk Hall.
