EYP's Senior Master Planner, Charles Craig*, led a multi-disciplinary study* for a ten-year development plan update of the main campus in Huntington, in conformance to the university's new strategic plan. Space utilization and facility benchmarking were included in the study. Baseline comparisons with a sampling of same-sized peers underscored the need to institute a land acquisition strategy. The background studies also established rational case statements for facility expansion and funding within a flexible development framework.
As a public institution, an open process was desirable and requisite. The 10-month participatory study involved over 75 interviews, meetings, and open-house sessions to draw input from all campus constituencies and the surrounding community. Detailed preparation and concise summary materials resulted in unanimous acceptance of the plan draft by the university's Board of Governors.
Concurrent to the development of the campus plan, EYP was engaged to provide design services for the Marshall Commons Residence Halls and Harless Dining facility. The Campus Plan incorporated the site plan developed for the Marshall Commons Residence Halls and expanded it to address future housing needs.
