EYP created a signature building on the American University campus, successfully enhancing its identity. Additionally, the facility advances the profile of its nationally renowned arts programs by creating a unique and integrated community for the arts. EYP’s design unites the building’s three separate wings - housing academics, performing arts, and fine arts, each with specific programming and engineering requirements - by providing a major interior "avenue" that offers a variety of common spaces for informal student gatherings and performances. The open and inviting building is also extremely energy efficient, exceeding recommended IAQ standards, achieving sustainable design criteria with state-of-the-art system controls, and providing flexible system operations.
