Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Psychology, and Archaeology are united in this sustainably designed building to encourage synergies among disciplines and showcase the College’s commitment to science teaching and research. Communities of faculty offices and student/faculty research spaces maintain the intimacy of the Hamilton experience within an expansive facility. “Living rooms,” informal spaces for study and socializing, foster community and asynchronous learning. The building has become the new heart of the campus and has positively influenced enrollment.
Sustainability features include a central heat recovery system on the laboratory exhaust. The atrium consists of a double curtain-wall assembly with modulating solar blinds and ventilation shaft as well as a displacement HVAC system fed by a geothermal heat pump. High-performance glazing brings daylight deep into the building. Retro-commissioning by EYP Energy ensures systems continue to operate at the highest possible efficiency.
