GE required a design that showcased its innovative brand as well as its commitment to sustainable adaptive reuse. A new building envelope redefines the architectural character of a 100-year-old building to centralize executive leadership with research and development for wind/solar power and smart grid technology. A new four-story atrium - with a scale model wind turbine - includes dynamic visitor and conference spaces. EYP Energy modeled the facility to optimize energy savings. Careful phasing ensured that one of the client’s main data center hubs was critically maintained and upgraded throughout renovation. The 24/7 facility, powered by its own wind turbine and solar panels, realizes a 25 percent decrease in energy use in comparison to benchmarks.
