The Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall, is a college preparatory school. Its campus is listed on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places, nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in March 2011.
While the character of its buildings and landscape is a considerable asset, the inherent qualities of its facilities pose challenges for contemporary use. The Campus Master Plan advances concepts for improved instruction spaces, accessibility, and energy improvements.
Facility program summaries were developed and test-fitted by design concept studies. Recommendations focus on sustainable strategies for repurposing existing space. The plan proposes the creation of an active, core green space as well as contextually sensitive improvements for athletic and recreational fields. Enhancements to pedestrian and vehicular circulation include sustainable design techniques to mitigate stormwater runoff and heat island effect.
